What's New?

Why we have updated the site:-

> The site has been in existence for six years, and while it has been updated over this time, the format was looking tired & dated.

> Large numbers of images have been added to the site in the six years - we now display over 9,600 photographers' pictures on this site - the largest of any photographic competition website.

> The site, at 1,791 pages, was difficult to manage, and did not showcase the photographers' images properly. The total number of files within the site stood at 13,819 (comprising of pages, images and ancilliary files).

> The number of visitors each year has grown from around 90,000 pages visited in 2000, to over 1M this year. The site now has visitors world-wide.

> With the impending launch of CLICK!, a common design theme between the two sites was required.

Summary of changes:-

> We contacted a number of picture editors, photographers, and other picture professionals, and asked for specific feedback on what they liked and disliked about the site.

> We have re-created the site from scratch, updating the look and feel of the site, whilst keeping large navigation links and avoided using fly-out menus. This is in response to the photographer feedback who wanted the easy navigation retained.

> All pages are accessible within three clicks of the Homepage

> The Homepage itself will only be a summary of latest news, changes and items of interest, directing users to other pages.

> We have added a new section About the Awards, detailing Who we are, along with details of how judging takes place, the Awards ceremony and a section on our Privacy Policy.

> We have added a Search facility.

> The Alan Harper Bursary has been given its own section, and showcases the winning photographers' projects.

> All pages have been given a unique title, making it easier to add separate pages to their 'favourites' or bookmark them.

> All Picture Editors' Awards announcements and newsletters will be available to view in the 'News' section.

> The 'Enter Awards' section will now be a permanent section on the site (rather than only appearing during the entry period).

>
The Gallery has been extensively revised:
The last six years of Award winners are retained on the site, including everyone who entered in 2006.
We have added a summary page to each year detailing the overall winners.
All images are now presented in a harmonised format. Each image is a thumbnail which can be clicked to view the large image.
Where possible, we have increased images' quality and dimensions
Where available, captions have been added to Single Image entries.
The number of pages has been drastically reduced, without losing any photographers' pictures - the new site has more information and images but at just 200 pages it will be more easy to manage and change.
All years have a section showing images of each Awards Ceremony, held at the Guildhall, London

> We have introduced a new logo for the Awards.

We hope you like the new design, please give us your feedback!
